Business Consulting and Private Art Instructions Openings for 2017

We are opening up our calendar to start scheduling business consults and private art instruction in 2017.

This has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the new studio because it has allowed us to connect in brand new ways.

Over the past year I have consulted with businesses owners from all over the world and have helped them make a plan to grow their business, get back on track or get off the ground.

Running your own business is one of the hardest things you will ever do but it is also one of the most rewarding.  If you feel stuck in your business, not sure how to navigate social media, don’t know how to focus and move forward or you just need another creative to brainstorm with you then I would love to talk with you. You can choose a one hour session or meet weekly/monthly. We will talk through Skype so we see each other and create a genuine relationship as we work together.

There are few things I do that give me as much joy as connecting with other creative business owners and sharing what we have learned.

If you would like to schedule a consult please email us at contact@jeanneoliverdesigns.com.

***

I love teaching online and also in live workshops but sometimes the best use of your time and resources can be private one on one instruction.

I meet with artists in our studio and it can be a one time instruction, monthly or you can travel and we can schedule it for a full day or weekend.

If you are interested in scheduling private art instruction please email us at contact@jeanneoliverdesigns.com

Because of our own new beautiful studio here in Castle Rock, Colorado I am only traveling to one studio in 2017 and it is to teach in North Caroline at the Donna Downey Studios

The most beautiful and inspiring gift to yourself to start off 2017!

Coming together and creating one on one with other artists is one of my favorite things. I have three children at home and my heart is to be with them so it is only the most special studios and opportunities that bring me away from my own studio.

In person I am able to connect in a whole different way than online and we are able to work one on one on your art and even where you want your art to go. The intimacy that a live workshop offers is priceless to me and I hear that back from other artists also. It is always a growth experience for each artist teaching and the artists gathering together.

This coming February I will be traveling to North Carolina to teach at the Donna Downey Studios! This is such a treat for me to be at Donna’s studio but to also be teaching along the East Coast! I know I get asked often to make my way to the East Coast so I hope this makes many of you happy!

THREE DAYS of us sketching, laughing, connecting, sculpting and going away filled up and ready to take what we have learned and discovered about ourselves and investing it into our own work. I love this part of live workshops! I just walk away filled up and inspired in my own creativity! I hope you join me!

You can make payments (hello!) and start your 2017 with a creative gift for yourself!

Come and See What They Created {Sketching and Sculpting in Santa Ana}

Last week I left a house that was being packed up for a move across town and I flew to teach in Santa Ana, California. Part of me found it difficult to leave in the midst of so much to do and the other part of me wanted to race to the plane as fast as possible.

I left right before a snowstorm was about to hit and landed in sunny (yet windy) California. Just days before my trip my good friend Danielle Donaldson decided to tag along and be my helper (I promise I didn’t really make her work too hard). She was the perfect distraction to my packing up stress and made talking as you drift off to sleep so much more fun than talking to yourself.

I had a sold out and beyond class at Studio Cresendoh and was surrounded by the most incredible artists. The group was exceptional with their humor, energy, attitudes and talent.

It is a gift to have two full days to spend and share thoughts, mediums and techniques with a room of other artists. I feel like you truly get to have a glimpse of each other creatively and you can take your time to unravel the lessons more organically. The premise behind our two days was all about finding and seeing your style. We can take online classes, workshops, read books about art but what is our natural hand? Touch? Style? I think with a few key practice lessons it doesn’t take too long to find it, notice it, accept it and go forward boldly.

As an artist I know that my deepest desire with my art is to create authentic art that tells my story.   That means embracing my hand, my natural tendencies, my imperfections and my story. The first day of my sketching and sculpting workshop was full of fast moving prompts with limited mediums to encourage authentic mark making and tendencies. At the end of the day we spread our work out and we were each able to see the authentic ways our touch was creating a style all our own. This full day of practice was to show us our touch and then to take those authentic elements and incorporate them into our sculptures the following day.

Day two was just pure fun with each artist creating an industrial armature and learning basic sculpting techniques. Most of the artists had never sculpted before and they were incredibly open minded and adventurous to dive right in.  Each artist carried their authentic hand into their sculpting. At the end of the workshop Nancy Holly (go right now and check out her work. It made me weep it is so stunning) took a photo of each sculpture and created these fun collages so we could see all of our work together (A few of the women had to leave before this photos was taken). Can you even believe many of these women had never used clay before?!

Teaching and connecting with women in person is one of the best parts of my job. I do not to it as often as I would like because I am honestly the biggest homebody and I can’t stand to leave my family BUT when I teach I connect with that part of me that can only be reached through teaching.

Thank you to each of the women that truly SHOWED UP creatively! You repeatedly got out of your comfort zone over the two days and created beautiful art and made me laugh a whole lot the whole time.

Until next time.

If you would like to create together here are so upcoming events (also I am announcing my first two day workshop here on our new property very soon).  They are all sold out at this time but most have a wait list.

Online workshops that have just started or that are starting soon…

To celebrate we are also giving away one $350 Dick Blick Gift Card!  Read to the bottom to see how to enter.

Come and see what we have for you…

You can also see the course trailer below…

Beginning January 18th is our first online art journaling course all about finding your own authentic story.

Reflections: Paint Your Story

Join me for a two week art journaling online course all about unraveling your own story and creating authentic art that only you can tell.

When I started to see my own stories as being meaningful and significant my art began to change.  When I could look back and find my own timeline and defining moments I was able to start digging deeper as an artist and my creating became more of a time of remembering, honoring, forgiving, healing and celebrating.  It made me more intentional about where I wanted to go creatively and how I wanted to share it.

If you think your story isn’t good enough…you are mistaken.

If you are afraid to tell your story…maybe it is time to find freedom

If you have never told your story…it is time.

If you want to create authentic art that no one else can create…let’s get started.

This two week online course is $48 with lifetime* access.

Beginning on February 15th is a follow up to the popular Scribble Art with Julie Johnson.

Making Art Sing: Values, Shapes and Lines

I have found wonderful and new techniques in my studio this fall.  We are not going to lose the basics of drawing. Learning the measuring is important in drawing.  But how about drawing on vellum and painting with drawing materials!  Really we use only a wet brush.  Fun and more fun!   Join me, as we get lost in learning about drawing.   I love to talk and explain my purpose for doing something as you watch from my shoulder.  Yes, you are that close up in seeing the marks and strokes I am making while I demo and video from a vertical easel.

This one week online course has recently opened for registration and has the early registration price of $29.98 with lifetime* access.

Registration has just opened for Danielle Donaldson’s newest watercolor course All Creatives Lovely and Small!

This course will begin on March 14th.

Ellies, pups and bunnies, oh my! One whole week of online creative goodness! We will start off our week with a good dose of danielle-ish color theory. This isn’t your everyday color-wheel stuff. As a matter of fact, it is kind of the opposite. You’ll learn how to work with color in a whole new way. You’ll find your very own colorful voice with a series of simple exercises that will not only build your creative signature but seriously boost your watercolor confidence. Next we’ll pick up our mechanical pencils and illustrate some quirky and goodness-filled animal friends. You’ll learn how to break down their bits and pieces and then reassemble them in a bunch of different ways. And then we’ll add soft, yummy layers of color and delicate details. We’ll wrap up our week by building a lovely, layered block of patterned paper, snippets of ribbon and a word or two to give our four-legged friend a place to perch.

This one week course has the current early registration price of $32 with lifetime* access.

Registration has opened for Elements of Clay with Alissa Millsap!

This course will begin on February 29th.

Do you have childhood memories of making mud pies or building sandcastles?

Maybe you loved creating something out of playdoh, wishing you could keep them forever?

In Elements of clay, I will be showing you several projects using air-dry paper clay.

No kiln needed!

Each project is inspired by nature, as well as the hope of new beginnings that come in the spring. Each project has a bohemian flair and style. I doesn’t matter if you worked with clay before or have never experienced creating a sculpture, it is my wish that you will be inspired to try something new. I hope you will join me on this journey as we explore the elements of clay.

***

Here is a peek into the course…

“Painting is so poetic, while sculpture is more logical and scientific and makes you worry about gravity.”
 -Damien Hirst

In this playful exploration of three dimensional form, we will dive into the fundamentals of creating stable and long-lasting sculptures using plasters and clays that are readily accessible, fun to work with, and easily modified to create whatever form you want.

During the week of this jam packed course, we will build multiple projects from start to finish with each project emphasizing different techniques that can all be adapted and modified to be combined with all the other techniques taught in the course. Each project will demonstrate a different armature or foundation construction approach so that you can feel confident in the stability of your beautiful pieces no matter what the final form is.

Once we have a stable foundation shape, we will explore various finishing and textural effects using paint, carving, sanding, finishing with encaustic medium, and incorporating paper ephemera & found objects. You can expect to get a bit messy but will enjoy that you most of the projects demonstrated can be created from start to finish in a day or less even with no prior sculpting experience.
Share the joy of the journey of this course with children or friends in playful collaboration or dive in the learning as sacred personal creative time to build objects of lasting beauty and joy.

“Art-making is not about telling the truth but making the truth felt”
