Nothing has defined our business and brand as much as finding my own style through photography. This has been a gift that has not only grown our business but allowed me to capture my family and the day to day.

 Photography 101: Through the Artist’s Eye with Cynthia Shaffer begins on Monday, April 25th!

The registration price for this one week course (4+ hours of content) is $46.00. This course will begin on April 25, 2016, all content will be pre-recorded so you can watch at your convenience and you will have lifetime* access.

Meet Cynthia Shaffer

Truth be told … way back when … I first picked up a camera out of necessity. I was writing my first craft book and needed to send my editor photos of the projects I was working on. I knew right then and there that I needed to master this photography thing in order to “sell” my project to my editor! Since that time I have had the opportunity to photographed 40+ arts and crafts book, many, many models, families, event and products and on and on. Aside from being a photographer I’ve authored a few books, most recently, Simply Stitched Gifts (Lark 2015) featuring my love for free motion stitching.

Southern California is home for me and my husband Scott and our 3 pups, Harper, Berklee and Rosie. Oh, and I do have a couple of adult kids as well … Cameron and Corry!

Come visit me on my blog … cyntiashaffer.typepad.com or my photography website … cynthiashafferphotography.com or, if you have any questions, send me an email at cynthiashaffer2@gamil.com!

Here is a little peek into the course…

Have you ever looked at super dreamy photos and wondered how the heck did they do that? Do you want to take great photos of your art, capture precious moments of your family, children, pets or nature and then make them shine on your web site, social media, blog or in publications? Well, guess what? It’s all about learning to shoot in manual mode. This workshop will teach you just that, and so much more!

Ok, here’s the thing about this workshop … Cynthia is an artist and knows how to teach this technical subject in a way that creative people will understand. Often creative minds need visual aids to learn rather than written text. While there will be plenty of written words, tips and tricks, downloadable cheat sheets and links to Cynthia’s favorite tools she can’t live without, the workshops will be packed with close-up hands on videos (Cynthia’s hands on the cameras showing you where the buttons and dials are and how and when to push them). But here’s the best part … you’ll be able to stop the video and practice with your camera and then continue on at your own pace. And if you didn’t quite understand it the first time, because this is all brand new to you, you can play that video over again!

Towards the end of this workshop there will be activities and prompts to practice all your new photography skills! While some of the activities will be geared towards the artist, the basic photography skills taught are the same for anyone wanting to learn how to get the most from their camera and to shoot in manual mode.

A Facebook page will be available to chat, share and trouble shoot! Cynthia will be available daily to help troubleshoot and problem solve.

So grab your DSLR, turn the mode dial to “M” and let your photography adventure begin!

Creativity Takes Courage {Cat Bude}

***

For those of you that are new to the blog I want to tell you a little bit about the free series.

My creative network offers free videos, new online courses, live “chats” and now interviews with courageous lovelies from around the world.

Over the past two years I have had the opportunity to interview some of my favorite creative women and business owners.

You can see the talented list of interviewees over on my creative network under Creativity Takes Courage.

This month we are talking with Cat Bude all the way from Normandy, France!

I have had the absolute joy of getting to know Cat over the past three years.  I always leave my conversations with her inspired and with a smile on my face (and with another idea ready to take off).

I admire her love of family, home and faith.

She is a PNW transplant that has dived into the adventure of a lifetime and in the process saved everything that mattered to her.

Join us for an interview that will walk you through her family’s move to France, starting a business and finding her greatest voice.

Come on over and transport yourself to France!

To watch the video you just need to be registered at jeanneoliver.ning.com (registering is free).

Once you are on the site you will find this series, free videos (business and art) and new online courses along the left hand side of the page.

You will find all of our courses/videos under the COURSES heading.

If you want to watch Cat’s video:

1) Go to COURSES along the left hand side of the page

2) Click on Creativity Takes Courage {interviews with courageous friends}

3) Click the +join button on the upper right hand side

4) All of the details are on the page and you are all set.

Tell your friends!

We want to create an online community where you can create, connect and be inspired.

An Australian Wedding {Simple Beauty}

Few people know their style as clearly as Cathy Penton.

When Your Gifts Lead To Dreams Coming True {Lara Blair}

Sometimes your path seems so clear and other times your gifts take you on a journey you never could have imagined.

There are times in your life when you know without a shadow of a doubt that you are doing EXACTLY what you were made for…and then you wake up one day and know it is time to move on.

It was perfect at the time.

It was real and needed and fulfilling.

It opened up the whole world to you and now it is keeping you from the new pullings of your heart.

That is the crazy thing about your gifts.

They let you know in so many different ways what is right for right now…and when it is not right forever.

All of this dream and path talk:-) leads me to this gorgeous girl….

My friend Lara Blair is one of the most incredible women I know.

I feel safe with her.

If you have a friend like that you know exactly what I mean.

She is love, faith, joy, creativity and peace all mixed up together.

All I have to do is hear her voice on my voicemail and I think I breathe a little deeper. A little slower.

Whenever I am with Lara (in person, online or on the phone) we openly talk about our struggles, dreams, directions, passions and family.

I have watched her gifts explode and I love when I hear her heart and head fill me in with everything that she is dreaming up.

I always thought that if I were truly following my gifts that it would be a golden road paved out in front of me with a clear path of where to go….and it has been the most opposite.

It curves and twists and takes me places that I could never have imaged.

Right when I think the path will lead one way…it jets another.

I know the same is true for Lara.

All of my rambling leads me to tell you about Lara’s newest adventure.

She is an incredible photographer.

Her photography gifts have lead her to a successful photography business, retreats, classes, mixed media artist and now published author.

I was so giddy when I received her book in the mail.

I read it from cover to cover and loved how it felt like she was right in front of me.

She is funny, open, encouraging and honest.

I don’t photograph animals but as I read I learned so much more about photography, shooting for my business and even capturing our cat Milo:-)

This adventure has opened doors for her next project that actually leaves me breathless with the photos that Lara has captured.

I will share that project as soon as I can!

Whether you take photos of people or take photos of animals (or you do it all just for fun) you will love Lara’s new book.

I have even had the honor of writing a few reviews for her so please read those to hear more of my thoughts.

I have told you all the lovey dovey things about Lara but here are the other details:-)

Artist Bio

Lara Blair is a fine art photographer, photography instructor, writer and artist who lives in the beautiful Northwest. She owns one of the most successful fine art dog and horse portrait studios in the country. Lara has a dog photography book published by Amherst Media that is now available in stores and on Amazon.com

On the teaching front, she loves to help up and coming photographers stand out from the crowd in a fast growing industry. Lara hosts workshops in the Northwest,Texas and Italy for beginning and amateur photographers. These classes are held each season of the year. The next one will be in February 2013.

There are several fine art photography collections in the works for the coming year. “Askew” will debut in the spring of 2013. All of her fine art collections can be seen on LaraBlairFineArt.com

In addition to running the studio, Lara teams up with artist, Elida Field to host “Ignite the Heart” photography & art retreats in the Northwest and Italy. These two creative souls believe in lifting women up to higher places. The best feedback they’ve gotten from retreat attendees is that the experience was “a life-changer”.
