Modern Farmhouse Christmas Home Tour

We truly wait until after Thanksgiving to pull out our decorations for Christmas (and we are still pulling them out).

We will be adding to our home over the next week but today is a great start!

We are all so excited to celebrate the birth of Christ, to get ready for a new year, to intentionally choose how to spend the season and to gather for our favorite traditions.

This is our first Christmas in our new home and we love seeing our Christmas decorations in this new space.

I believe it takes years to pull your home together and we are only 9 months in. We are having the best time making this house our home and can’t wait to see how it evolves.

I am honored to once again to be a part of Jen Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk.

This year Wayfair is sponsoring the housewalk and we are excited to have them joining us!

This whole week is such a gorgeous gathering of so many incredible bloggers as they share their homes dressed up for the holidays.

Welcome to the first day and if you are coming over from Fox Hollow Cottage I am so glad you are here.

I love to decorate simply for the holidays, shop the house, use what we have and only add a few new elements.

I have also learned over the years that perfect is never as important as the people coming through your doors and those that live under your roof.

My heart is that our home is comfortable and cozy.  I also want to be surrounded by things we enjoy and use.

Welcome to our home.

(This is our acts of service tree that we bring out and use each Christmas)

The Library and Music Room

This is the space where we listen to music but also where the children practice and play the piano.

The light in here is amazing and one of the many reason we fell in love with this home.

If you look over that railing you will down into the kid’s study area and that photo is coming up.

Our School Study Nook

This area is over the railing behind our library and we have converted it into a study area for the kids to use their laptops, do homework etc.

Our Living Room

We went to the tree farm the day after Thanksgiving and picked our three trees (our art studio art tour will be coming later this week).

We got as far as the lights and the kids said they loved it just like that. We are giving it a few days to see if they change their minds. IF they do we will be sure to share here on the blog.

I kind of agree with them.

Our Kitchen

I am just realizing that I never took wide angle images of our kitchen. You can see more image HERE and  HERE and HERE.

Our Family Room

You can see more photos of our Master Bedroom dressed up for Christmas HERE.

Thank you so much for taking a peek at our home.

Come back later this week when we share our studio dressed up for Christmas!

You have more homes to see and the next stop is Beneath My Heart!

I am excited to make the new house our home and to share it with you along the way!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

My family wishes you a Merry Christmas!

Our Christmas Home Tour from 2015

***THIS POST IS OUR HOLIDAY HOME TOUR FROM 2015**

Please come back tomorrow for our Christmas Home Tour for 2016

***

How do you say goodbye to a home and bring in the holidays for the last time at an address?

The past few weeks have brought such a storm of mixed emotions and now the reality that we are moving from the only home our children have known.

We love it pretty simple around here for the holidays and this year will be the biggest exhale of all.

The sweetest way to honor a home that we have loved so much (and that has loved us right back) is to just slow down and love each other even more.

I hope you will give us some grace this year for the house walk as we unexpectedly found a property, placed our home on the market on Thanksgiving day and have had showings ever since until today.

I made the very conscious decision to choose peace, family and simplicity instead of stress.

I highly recommend it:-)

We have simply decorated our home for Christmas in preparation for packing and moving.  I hope you will indulge me as I share some of my favorite holiday decorating from years past with some of the new photos from this year.

Merry Christmas!  I hope you are able to take an exhale too and just take the time to be with the ones you love the most.

Kelly is incredible and her decor is so inspiring.

Welcome to our home…

I am loving my deer and branch antlers from Joss and Main! The kids love it and it goes perfectly with the simple decor and natural elements that we love to decorate with.

We all decorated the tree last night and shared some of our favorite Christmas memories from this house.

Don’t you just love home? It is truly one of the most beautiful words.

At least we rewarded the kids with s’mores for the long days of painting, cleaning and pretty much not allowing them to live in our home for the past few days.

The tray is from Joss and Main and is the perfect size!

Some of my favorite images from previous holiday housewalks!

I am excited to make the new house our home and to share it with you along the way!

Thank you so much for stopping by!

My family wishes you a Merry Christmas!

Our Family Room | The Jack of All Trades Room

Our home is very open and has a modern floor plan but our family room is tucked away perfectly just for us.

From our kitchen you go up a few steps and you are in this cozy room that has become our movie, game, school and friend hangout space.

This room was the first room I put together in this home because with all of the hard work of moving we just needed a space to sit and relax and GATHER.

I love gathering and comfy spaces.  Piles of pillows and blankets and lots of spaces for your favorite people to cuddle up with each other.

This is that space for us.

Thank you Ella Claire for inviting us to be a part of your Farmhouse Holiday Series!

(Make sure to check out our kitchen tour last week)

I shared a video walking tour yesterday in the Finding Fall Home Tour. I will post it again below if you missed it.

Come and check out the rest of the homes on the tour. I love this tour because each week you get a more intimate look into our spaces.

Fall Kitchen and Recipe Tour 2016 | Mini Home Video Too

Welcome to our first home tour in our new home! Thank you for joining me for the Farmhouse Holiday Series. Come back each week over the next few months and get peeks into our home dressed up for Fall and Christmas.  Our hope is that this series will be glimpses into our homes during the holidays, and that we will be sharing inspiration for simple cozy spaces.

We went on a crazy home journey within the past year and you can read about it here, here and here.  We had no interest in moving and then here we are. It was a year ago this month that we looked at that first home and all of the adventuring began.

We have been in this home for 6 months now and we have worked the hardest to turn an unfinished workshop and garage into our new studio.  We have so many ideas and plans for this home and we have been having the best time making it ours.  Today we are taking a peek into our kitchen and this is an area where we will only be making small changes for awhile.  Before we moved in we had the whole house painted Nano White by Behr (ceilings, walls, baseboards) and we had the window frames painted Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams. We also replaced all of the lighting throughout the whole house. It is amazing what just paint and lighting can do to transform a space.

All of the homes we put offers on were mid century or more modern homes.  We had been wanting this change for awhile and it feels so good to have this new creative energy. Creating comfortable and beautiful spaces within our home for our family and friends is one of my greatest joys.  I am not in a rush to fill the space and want to allow the space to organically come together.

One of our favorite parts about this new house is the layout and all of the windows.

I love making breakfast each morning and looking out the back windows and seeing the mountains. If we are really lucky we will see our favorite residence of our woods…the does and fawns.

I hope that never gets old.

We were able to take many of our vintage pieces and mix them with more modern pieces in this home and I think they work beautifully together.

I have learned to carry scissors in the car so I can cut all of the wild flowers along the side of the road on my way home each day:-)

I like to have my cooking staples on hand and easily within reach.  I love creating layers in decorating throughout the house and the kitchen is no exception.

I change out everything on the vintage cutting board each month based upon the season and what plants I can find.

I love including our children’s art throughout the house and I adore this sculpture that our Maddy made a few years ago.

I love when they will let me show them art techniques and then they run with it and create mini masterpieces in my eyes.

We had originally planned to put up open shelving in this area but we have loved the mix of the vintage shoe trolley with the white ironstone and other collected serving pieces.

We have lots of years to play with this space.

While I was in Normandy a few years back I found some of the most wonderful vintage grain sacks.  I framed many of them and you will find some of them around this home.

If you have vintage needlepoint or fabric but you don’t know what to do with it I highly recommend framing it. It adds so much interest and texture to a room.

Because I know that photos make it hard to feel the flow of a home I wanted to make a quick kitchen video for you all.

I love cooking for my family but also having friends over and casually and comfortably entertaining.

The biggest thing that I have learned over the years is to cook things that I love to cook and things that I have cooked so many times that I am not stressed with my guests.

So, make a fun cocktail for your guests and enjoy cooking for your friends and family and keep the focus on them and having a great time.

I have included a few of my favorite recipes below with videos that were created for my Art of Home online course from last fall (back when I had red hair:-)).

If you are new to my blog you may not know that we have the most gorgeous and fun online home courses on our creative network!

We have a brand new online course beginning on November 1st with the talented Melinda McCoy of House 214 Designs.

Feel Home: Creating a Timeless Feeling Home is all about how to decorate a comfortable and beautiful space!

We all have the same questions when it comes to designing our homes. Where do I begin? Is this really me or am I making this decision because it is the latest trend? Am I still going to like this look six months from now? Whether you are the everyday home designer or working with a professional, the choices you make for your timeless home need to be made with intention. This course will guide you through the process and teach you the framework that I use to create a timeless home with my clients. We will create storyboards, discover the language for a timeless home (hint, it has a lot to do with your personality), and learn the exact design elements that create a timeless feeling. You will learn by doing. As a result, making design decisions for your timeless home will be easier. You will be making your decisions with intention and confidence rather than because you saw it in the latest issue of a favorite magazine. This course will teach you not just the what, but the how and why behind creating a timeless feeling in your home.

If you are new to our creative network here are easy steps to get you started…

1. Register at jeanneoliver.ning.com (this is free).

2. Once your account is active you are able to take advantage of our free courses, series and even pay for courses.

3. Go to jeanneoliver.ning.com and along the top header click on “COURSES” and you will be able to view all three pages of online courses and free series.

4. To purchase a course please choose your course, click on the +join in the upper right hand corner, pay and you will be INSTANTLY in the classroom.

5. All videos can be found along the right hand side of the page under “COURSE CONTENT”.

Finding Fall Home Tour With Better Homes And Gardens

I hate running from one place to another and nothing makes me happier than a slow day at home so I can’t tell you how happy I am that I am your last stop on the Finding Fall Home Tour.

I get to spend more time with you and we all can take a big exhale, I can get you a coffee and we don’t have any place to run off to.

If you are coming from Miss Mustard Seed I know you are overflowing with inspiration! That girl knows how to do it right!

I am go glad you are here and that you have taken the time to take a peek into our home dressed up for fall.

Fall is my favorite and it is not just because I have a love affair with sweaters and boots!

Fall is when I seem to turn my head and heart towards home even more than usual and I find myself opening my doors to others more.

It isn’t just the holidays…it is something different.

Things seem to slow down and you just don’t want to let it slip away.

In the midst of your busy day to day, dishes in the sink, pajama pants still on at 3pm or your hair up in a messy bun I hope you also find yourself opening your door to those around you this season too.

Welcome to our home…

Let’s start with the kitchen because this space is truly the heart of our home.

This is where we spend our time talking, working, eating and gathering in general.

[Learn how to make this paper roll holder and the hand lettering in the brand new Art of Home | Modern Simple Living]

{You can find the Persimmon gallery wrapped canvas HERE}

Next to the kitchen is our butler’s pantry which has really become the perfect place for coffee, tea and our bar (if you can call it that).

{If you love Sweet Melissa as much as I do you can find her HERE.}

Next to this space is my art studio. Coincidence? No!

This is where you will find us talking in the mornings, drinking coffee and doing school

I love gathering spaces and this sure meets that need in our family.

Our library is cozy and the space where we keep some of our books and our piano.

Hearing the children play is one of my favorite things on this earth!

Let’s head up stairs and at least show you what is clean (picked up works for me).

This is our master bedroom and there will be some fun changes in here this fall. I can’t wait to show you what a little paint can do!

When I have the time I really love to pull objects together I already have and go outside to gather branches and flowers for a simple table setting.

I really encourage you to just look for what you have and to use what is outside your front door.

I truly believe when we make the people more important than the perfection the whole atmosphere of our home changes.

We are atmosphere makers! We really are! What kind of atmosphere are we creating in our homes?

Thank you so much for touring our home!

Thank you to Finding Home for including me with such incredible designers and bloggers!

To view this week long tour head to Finding Home  and start from the beginning!

If you are interested in my brand new online course all about creating an artisan home I would love to have you read more about the Art of Home | Modern Simple Living!

It has only just begun!

Art of Home | Modern Simple Living will be about some of the lost arts of caring for our home and family.

Each week will contain step by step videos with decorating, cooking, gardening, entertaining, housekeeping and more…so much more!

The following will be shared: The Art of Farm to Table, The Art of Gathering, The Art of Domestic Moxie and The Art of Reclaimed Style.

This four week course is your favorite home and cooking magazines come to life!

Maybe it will even bring back sweet memories and we will all learn from each other.

We would love to have you join us!

An Action Packed Monday!

What a Monday we are having!

I am not even on my first cup of coffee and look what is already going on…

1. Week four of Studying Under The Masters III just launched and it is FULL of videos by artist Kelly Berkey!

This course has lifetime access and it is so full of content that you will be studying, learning, re-watching and growing as an artist for a long time.

2. My week with Life Book 2015 launched today!  I gave the the class tons of videos and loved creating for this year long, online, journaling course!    There is still time to sign up.

3. Even though it has been raining like crazy here in Colorado (I am not complaining though because I love the rain) I hear that it is acting like summer in other parts of the country:-)  Today is the first day of the Summer Tour of Homes 2015.  Our home will be featured later in the week but you will not want to miss this line up!

I would like to take this time to thank my Grandpa Benjamin, Grandpa Loran and Kenneth Oliver for serving our country and for making a day like today possible.  Thank you to all the men and women that serve and to all the families that sacrifice so much for our country. I think and pray for you often and no words are ever adequate.

Fall Decorating Ideas {Finding Fall Favorites}

I wanted to do this days ago but vacation was getting in the way:-)

It is taking me 20 times as long to get anything done, upload photos etc.

I will work on it for 5 minutes, save it and then we are off on another adventure:-)

It was such an honor to be included in Laura’s Finding Fall Home Tour!

Laura and Better Homes and Gardens did such an incredible job bringing everyone together and giving everyone TONS of decorating inspiration.

It was fun for me to go through all the blogs again and pick out some of my favorite decorating ideas from each blogger.

I hope you will enjoy the favorites and if you missed the tour (or you want to visit start to finish) I hope you love the inspiration.
