Brand New Mini Course |Instant Abstract + Frame

It is Friday! That means the weekend and extra time and…

If you have been wanting a gorgeous abstract painting on that perfect wall in your home but don’t want to spend a ton of money you will love my news! When I first saw that Jennifer LeBrun O’Brien had painted her own piece for her gorgeous home and popular DIY and decor blog City Farmhouse (go right now if you haven’t ever checked her out) I asked her right away to share it on our creative network. Lucky for us she said yes!

Jen and I have been friends since she lived here in my old neighborhood in Colorado. Many years ago she moved back to where she grew up and she took all of her gifts and passions and has created an incredible blog and business out of it. Jen has excellence in everything she puts out into the world and that is why I am so excited about this mini course.

Because this online class is a mini course it means it is available RIGHT NOW, it is two hours and you have lifetime access AND it is only $18! I love that we have started to offer these mini courses right at the weekend so you can dive in, create and also have affordable options to grow your own gifts.
***
We have another INSTANT ACCESS mini course and this time it has been created by lifestyle blogger and designer Jen O’Brien of City Farmhouse!  You have probably seen her work all over Pinterest, on other blogs and in the pages of your favorite design magazines.  Jen is teaching Instant Abstract + Frame | A Mini Course and you don’t have to wait at all. Come on over!

In this mini course we will be exploring color, scale, composition and texture to create a large abstract painting for your home. We are going BIG with this piece to inspire you to conquer fear, find joy in the process and to make a meaningful connection. I will share my own experiences with art and how reflection allows me to dig deep to uncover art that is honest & raw and intentional. We will use wood, basic house paint and some unexpected tools to craft this original work. In addition we will make a simple wood frame to complete the piece.

2 hours + INSTANT ACCESS + lifetime* access + $18!

Living Room Before and After

We have officially been in this house for one year as of tomorrow.

That is so hard for us to believe but when we look back over the past year we can’t believe all we have accomplished in that time (and all the things we still want to do).

This home has creatively been so fun! It has allowed us to go a totally different direction with our style and to create a fun space for our family.

This home has become a gathering space unlike any home we have had.

That was what was hinted at, prayed for and provided.

If you haven’t read our home journey you can find it here:

Part One

Part Two

Part Three

We have been so busy making the house our own and creating our new studio that I have forgotten to show you some of the other house projects.

I thought I would start with our living room.

Let me show you what we saw when we first saw this space. These next photos were from the PREVIOUS OWNERS…

This space was their dinning room, the walls were all a peachy tan color and they had built in this buffet piece.

Once we purchased the home (and before we moved in) we had all the walls and trim painted Nano White and all of the window frames painted black.

I am pretty sure the painters thought we were nuts but I assured them that if I hated the windows they were going to make a whole lot more money painting them white.

The next thing we did was replace all of the lighting throughout the home.

We also ripped out the built in buffet before having the house painted.

The other two homes we had placed offers on had wood burning fireplaces and I was pretty sad that this home only had one gas fireplace (the previous owners took out one other fireplace that was located in the kitchen) and it was in the master bedroom.

It didn’t make sense for our family to have a dinning room right next to the eat in kitchen so I thought it would be the perfect place for a small living room with a fireplace.  The original plan was to add a modern wood burning stove in this space but the depth needed was taking too much out of the floor space. We went with the most modern gas fireplace we could find that would work in the space and also allow us to have the sitting space we wanted.

Here is a photo of the space during one of our final inspections. You can’t tell in this photo with our realtor but we were really excited.

Here is a photo before the fireplace was added. If you peek into the library/music room you get a peek of that space before we built the bookshelves. That will be the next before and after:-)

BEFORE

Here are some of the progress photos.

Here are some of our AFTER photos. The black special order exposed pipe/vent was worth it. It really brought the modern feel that were were wanting into the space.

This is the space were we read, have coffee in the morning and even listen to music. Because it is right off the kitchen it is the place where our friends and family also gather. The fireplace transformed the space and also helped add to the look of the space that we were creating throughout the whole house.

My best advice is to trust your gut with what you want in your home. Don’t let the painters or even friends talk you out of the ideas you have. Big deal if you make a wrong paint decision…paint again. Really. We are having so much fun and we love the direction our home is taking.

Feel Home: Creating a Timeless Feeling Home

I know that one of your favorite courses that we offer on our creative network is anything with home!

Being creative and creating a comfortable and beautiful space is at the heart of many of us (and even more desire to know how).

But where do we begin?

How do we make decisions that truly reflect our heart, style, lifestyle and budget? How do design spaces today that we will be happy with tomorrow?

I am honored to share that designer Melinda McCoy of House 214 Design will take us step by step and share how she helps her clients make design choices in Feel Home: Creating a Timeless Feeling Home.

We all have the same questions when it comes to designing our homes. Where do I begin? Is this really me or am I making this decision because it is the latest trend? Am I still going to like this look six months from now? Whether you are the everyday home designer or working with a professional, the choices you make for your timeless home need to be made with intention. This course will guide you through the process and teach you the framework that I use to create a timeless home with my clients. We will create storyboards, discover the language for a timeless home (hint, it has a lot to do with your personality), and learn the exact design elements that create a timeless feeling. You will learn by doing. As a result, making design decisions for your timeless home will be easier. You will be making your decisions with intention and confidence rather than because you saw it in the latest issue of a favorite magazine. This course will teach you not just the what, but the how and why behind creating a timeless feeling home.

Feel Home is an online course with 4+ hours of content, lifetime access and it will begin November 1, 2016. The early registration price is $38.00.

Our New Home In Pictures

It has been 2 1/2 months since we have been in our new home and land.  In some ways it feels like we have been here forever and then we are reminded we don’t even know this land or home yet.  Before we moved in we had the whole interior painted white and all of the window frames painted black (except for the children’s bedroom window frames were painted white).  We have never done this before and it was the biggest time saver for us to feel like we could jump right in and start putting our home together.  We also replaced all of the lighting throughout the whole house. I starting ordering lighting as soon as they accepted our offer.  I will do a whole post soon all about our lighting and sources.

We are currently having our bookshelves built and a fireplace is being added (hence weird framing in one of the photos).  We have also been working like crazy to get our studio finished.  We have the electrical finished, insulation almost done, walls going in this weekend and our full view garage doors have been ordered.  In between snowstorms we have also been trying to work and play in the yard.  We have fit a lot in the past 2 1/2 months but it is all worth it and we are all in love with our new home and land.

I will try to take photos soon with a real camera but I wanted to share some of the house that I have captured with my phone.

More posts coming soon with the bookshelves installed and the fireplace completed!  Thank you so much for looking!

2014 Holiday House Walk

{If you like the images on our mantle you can print them out HERE. We are all crazy for them and love how whimsical they are! Alice, I think you are the bees knees.}

I am so glad you have stopped by and I can’t wait to welcome you into our home.

I have loved home, making home and loving on the people I love for as long as I can remember.

The older I get the more I know…truly know…that loving on others and loving on my family is far better than a pretty home.

In this home you will find that art is made often, music is usually playing, a candle is burning, books are being read, the house is rarely really clean and I forget about dinner until around 4:30 each day.

More than anything I hope that our children remember how much they are deeply loved and accepted.

I hope they always carry with them their faith and how it will guide their steps all of their days.

I hope they will also know that a pretty house is nice but the people in that house are the best!

Welcome to our home.

Our whole family wishes you the most Merry Christmas!

I am so honored each time Jennifer Rizzo has asked me to be a part of her Holiday House Walk.

It is so much fun to be included with such a talented group of women that love family and making home comfortable and beautiful!

To begin the walk from the beginning click the icon below or go directly to Jennifer Rizzo.

If you are stopping over from Four Generations Under One Roof I am so glad you are here. Jessica and her family create such a gorgeous home!

Go grab something to drink and I hope you will take a moment to look around.

I decorate pretty simple for the holiday and over the years my Christmas bins have gotten fewer and fewer.

I really love to pull the outdoors in and use what is easily available out my front door.

We decorate our tree as a family and at least this year the ornaments seem to be scattered out evenly.

We have had many years where the tree almost fell over from having it too weighted from the front or they were all really low.

This year we are hoping for the tree to stay up!

Last year we made an Acts of Service Advent Tree and we all loved it.

This year we are also going to use it again because it really helped our days to be more focused on others and not just what we were hoping to receive.

I had to throw this shot in because I play my record player all day long. It is one of my favorite things and brings me oodles of joy.

This on the other hand brings my husband joy:-)

During my fall house tour I created a drink cart out of my IKEA art cart.

I loved it so much I decided to do it again but this time make it a permanent part of the living room at least through the holidays.

Just a peek into our library.  This is where we hold some of our books and the piano.

This is where my littlest loves to play on the floor and we all love it when the fire is going and it is toasty warm.

See that pillow?

That is from Craftberry Bush and her home is next!

We made the star our of twigs, tied them with string and strung copper lights from Anthro. It is truly one of my favorite pieces.

I use it year around all over the house.

The gorgeous Advent cards are from Naptime Diaries.

Go get yourself some twigs and twine and make yourself giddy happy.

Honest.

For those of you that haven’t seen the kitchen since last year’s house walk I bet you can’t believe the difference.

We aren’t done yet but we are getting there. I hope we are getting there. Things take WAY long in this house to get finished. I like to say that we are fashionably late. Are you buying it?

You can read more about it here, here, here and here.

One of my favorite things to change up each month is our hanging paper roll.

This month was inspired by the art work found HERE.

Pretty much one of my favorite Christmas songs!  Beautiful and powerful song. THIS is one of my favorite versions.

This sign is from my dear friend House of Belonging.  It is always a little hard to put this one away each year.

This is my studio and where I create and tape many of my online courses.

I love that this room used to be our dinning room and it is so close to the rest of the house and my family.

That is not always true…but most of the time.

I am so excited to tell you why this tree doesn’t have an ornaments on it yet.

We just started Unwrapping The Greatest Gift and each night in December the kids will decorate the “Jesse Tree” with ornaments we printed out.

We already have placed the first ornament on during our first night of Advent.  It was thought provoking and meaningful.

I am excited to see what the Lord reveals to us over the next month.

I usually include more of our upstairs but I was taking photos the morning we were leaving for our Thanksgiving adventure trip and there was nothing up there you would want to see.

Please check out our previous Holiday House Walks so you will know that the bedrooms are cleaned every once in awhile!

Thank you so much for taking a look at out home all dressed up for Christmas.

Please come back again!

You are going to love, love the next home.

Have so much fun going through Lucy’s home at Craftberry Bush!

I would love to have you check out my creative network where I have over 35 free and paid for online courses.

It is truly a lifestyle network with courses about home, cooking, bee keeping, art and so much more!
