Art Journal It Out | It Begins On Monday!

***Art Journal It Out Will Launch On November 6th at 9am MST***

Carrying my artist’s journal around with me wherever I go and finding new ways to capture and tell the stories that surround me has become one of my sweetest art journeys. Art journaling has given me a fun and easy way to PRACTICE and in turn, change my art. I am honored to tell you that art journaling artist Brittany Soucy has created an art journaling course just for us! Welcome to the registration of Art Journal It Out!

Come and watch a peek into the course content…

Art Journal It Out

In this course, we will be art journaling.  I will be using a plethora of art supplies and explain how I use these supplies while discussing composition and mixed media techniques. I will demonstrate some portraiture and will teach you different ways I approach this in my art
journal. We will work on several spreads so you can try different styles and find new ways of growing your art skills.

We will go into each spread by layering handwriting with paint and gesso.  We will build upon those layers with mixed media and adhering paper and ephemera.  Then we will add a focal point and find a way to express a thought or feeling through your journaling. You will learn new
skills while creating something you love.

Try whatever you want – this is for YOU!   Make a mess, paint or cover up what you don’t like.

When you’re stuck, art journaling sets you free.  You open yourself up and let your frustrations go.  You gift yourself the joy of experimentation.  You discover that you have something to say and you open your heart.

Meet Brittany Soucy!

I live on the seacoast of New Hampshire. (Yes, that exists and it’s beautiful.) I’m grateful that all I have to do is walk across the yard to go to work in my 200 year old barn-studio. It’s like the dream of my childhood and the wish of my heart have come true.

I make art because it has always felt like a natural way to process my world. I find myself searching for beauty and craving to find interesting and nourishing ways to express it. I am captivated by light and how its warmth, healing, and truth illuminate everything it touches.

I believe that setting aside time for making and appreciating art is an act of self-care. I now understand that the process of art making is an important balm that propels us toward healing. When I was younger I worried that being creative and artistic was a useless talent to have, but now I consider it both a pleasure and a sacred responsibility.

Gathering Beauty| A Study in Still Life Painting Early Registration

We have been hoping for a course just like this for awhile.

We are so lucky to have Wendy Brightibill sharing her gifts again with us and this time she is teaching Gathering Beauty | A Study in Still Life Painting.

A peek into Gathering Beauty by Wendy Brightbill…

With Spring right around the corner, I am looking forward to the longer days and new life. I often feel a surge of creativity around this time of the year. There is something about the warm sunshine and gentle breezes that calls me to pick up my paintbrush and paint with abandon. With the promise of new life and all things green, I find myself drawn to vibrant color and painting flowers in my artwork. I have this need to gather and document all the beauty around me.

In this course, we will be looking for quiet moments of beauty to document and capture in our creative practice. We will spend time gathering all things beautiful and letting that spill out onto our canvases and paper. I will show you some of my favorite tips for creating a beautiful and unique still life composition. We will explore still life sketching on paper and in art journals. We will play with different mediums to create one of kind paintings and drawings. We will learn how to look with new eyes and really study every day moments. I will share with you all of my favorite techniques for painting floral still life pieces. We will focus on finding our own creative voice and how to express that on canvas.

You can watch the course trailer below:

The early registration price for this 4+ hour online course is $32 with lifetime* access.  The course will begin on April 24, 2017.

Modern Bohemian Jewelry: Creating Wearable Works of Art {early registration just opened}

We are having the most fun with all of the beautiful jewelry courses that are on the site right now and we are thrilled to open early registration for another course!

Registration has just opened for Modern Bohemian: Creating Wearable Works of Art with Jen Rizzo!

I was recently speaking at a conference where my good friend Jen Rizzo was also attending.

While we were there she wore the most beautiful jewelry pieces each day and I finally asked her where she got them. She told me she had made them!

She said that she had loved all of the new trends in jewelry but she couldn’t fathom paying that much for them and made all of her pieces for a fraction of what they were selling for in higher end stores.

I asked her right then if she would teach all of us how to make these gorgeous pieces! Lucky for us she said YES:-)

Explore jewelry making using natural materials. Work with wire wrapping, using odd shaped objects such as stone in your designs and create intricate closures.  Using these objects and tools you will create beautiful, organic and geometric shaped works of art.  We will create earrings, necklaces and bracelets and each piece will be perfect for gift going or keeping for yourself.  This jewelry class is for every skill level. No previous jewelry making skills are needed.

This course is a 4+ hour of content course with lifetime* access. The early registration price is $24 and the course will begin on November 1, 2016.

From Jen:

Growing up, I was one of those girls. One of those girls who rode a boys bike, liked to wear jeans and t shirts, and loved getting on my knees to dig in the dirt. I was also one of those girls , who had, (and still proudly has) a big, inner, creative, science geek, would often spend hours collecting rocks. I would pretend I was digging for fossils, or dig through layers of sand and clay dreaming about finding diamonds and precious gems. Never mind I lived in the heart of the suburbs. Each clump of earth revealed a new surprise for me. We lived in a newer subdivision with lots of overturned land and piles and piles of dirt hills. I would spend hours digging and sifting. And, the times we would go to my aunt and uncles camp ground, and I could walk on the rocky shores on the lake and find glimmering chunks of iron pyrite (Fool’s gold), I was in heaven! I was convinced I was rich! I would collect the sparkiest, shiniest rocks, take them home, wash them, and wish I could do more with them.

As I grew older, my parents were pretty good sports. They would  indulge my inner geek by taking me to actual rock and gems shows from time to time. When I was about 14, I discovered I could do more with those rocks than keep them in a dark box in my closet. I discovered jewelry making and have been hooked ever since. Once I could drive I would go by myself. I was obsessed with the natural shape of crystals, and  the find graining of granite, and I loved holding colorful strands of semi-precious stones made into beads.I proudly made my first pair of real earrings by buying  faceted stones, and popping them into pre-made findings. After that, I discovered all kinds of other jewelry techniques, and I found I loved creating something beautiful out of a raw earthy material, and would spend hours at a bench in my Dad’s workshop area sorting rocks and making jewelry.

I never lost that love, and a large part of my wholesale business early on was making and selling jewelry. It’s something that I’ve been doing since 14, and I still love to do. That love of natural materials has always stayed with me as well, and I still love letting my eyes sweep the ground to find those beautiful, sparkly treasures on the ground, or walk the lake shore looking for heart rocks or other shoreline treasures.

We will be making many of the projects in these pictures and explore jewelry making using natural materials. We will work with wire wrapping, and how to using odd shaped objects such as stone in your designs and create intricate closures. Using these objects and jewelry tools you will create beautiful, organic and geometric shaped works of art.  We will create earrings, necklaces and bracelets and each piece will be perfect for gift going or keeping for yourself. Many of these skills will hopefully inspired you to explore going beyond ordinary jewelry making,

This  class is for every skill level, even if you’ve never wire wrapped a thing! No previous jewelry making skills are needed.

Paint Your Town | Mixed Media Urban Landscapes EARLY REGISTRATION

I have been working on a very special project for awhile now and I am so excited to tell you about it.

When I came up with the idea of The Living Studio it was based upon the idea and belief that the whole world should be our studio.

I have taken people to Italy and France and soon The Danube to create art BUT if we only wait for special big trips then we miss out on growing our art on a daily basis and seeing the beauty right in front of us!

I want you to become a tourist in your own town and start connecting daily with the ordinary and familiar in a whole new way…

In Paint Your Town | Mixed Media Urban Landscapes we will become tourists in our own towns and open our eyes to the photography, sketching, architecture, people, cafes, painting, connecting, history and beauty right in front of us.

In this class we will create abstract landscapes, work with sketching and watercolors, collage, image transfers, charcoal sketches and create mini works of art to create our own Paint Your Town journals when we are done.

The heart behind my art and classes is to encourage practice, use what you have and to create wherever you go. I hope you will join me!  This will be the fall that your town becomes your favorite travel destination!

The early registration price for Paint Your Town | Mixed Media Urban Landscapes is $28, will have 4+ hours of content, all videos will be pre-recorded for your convenience and has lifetime* access.

Classical Figure Painting |Painting figures in the style of the Old Masters|

Angie Redhead has a brand new course on our creative network and registration has just opened!

Join Angie for a one week online course all about painting figures in the style of the Old Masters.

Come and read a little more about Classical Figure Painting

The Renaissance period is my most favorite time in art. In part due to advances in materials, renewed interest in the classics and availability of patrons, artists experienced a rebirth which
pushed their art to new depths. Figure painting was a common theme in this era and was a way to express stories of the past and present.

During this one week online class, we will create a group figure painting on canvas. I will take you through the process I’ve used when painting figures for murals, except in a smaller scale.

This class will cover: reference material resources, surface prep, sketching a classical figure outline, composition, the underpainting and painting the overlayers.

Please note that nude figure photos will be referenced online, and then they will be drawn and
painted.

This course will begin on September 1, 2015 and you will have LIFETIME ACCESS* to the videos.
