I Will Show You Mine {if you will show me yours}

Each Wednesday in the month of May I will be doing a series “I Will Show You Mine {if you will show me yours}.

You will also have the chance to link up and show “yours”.

Last week I showed what makeup I use.

This week I thought it would be fun to show you what I carry in my purse.

This is really it except there was some loose garbage that I had to shake out:-)

1. The Anne Ruffle Messenger Bag

2. My favorite sunglasses from Banana Republic

3. Keys (with the oldest leather key chain but my father in law gave it to me years ago)

4. I always have to include some food incase I am someplace that doesn’t have gluten free

5. My favorite Arbonne makeup brush

6. Covergirl concealer

7. Wallet from Target

8. iPhone (cracked all over the place from my children and me dropping it all of the time)

9. Mineral Fusion face powder

10. Visine (so I don’t look like I have been smokin’ weed)

12. My business postcards

13. Dried mango…everyone needs a little dried mango sometimes

Pretty {For Pretty’s Sake}

While I was in California I received the most thoughtful gift.

A woman that I had never met in person gave me a gift that I will treasure because without even knowing me…she knew me.

We both have a love of vintage clothing and design.

She gave me a collection of vintage collars.

I have no idea how I am going to display them but I will display them.

They are intricate, delicate and stunning.

Pretty…just for pretty’s sake.

We need more of that in our lives.

Carol, thank you for knowing me so beautifully and understanding how I would treasure such a gift.

What do you treasure just because it is pretty?

I Will Show You Mine {if you will show me yours}

Hello everyone!

I am back from teaching in California and my leg is healing beautifully!

It is still bandaged but almost all of the infection is gone.

Seriously….everyone that has ever known ANYONE with an infection has shared some horror story with me.

Bottom line…I am so thankful it is healing.

For the month of May I thought it would be fun to start a new series.

Each Wednesday will be “I Will Show You Mine {if you will show me yours}.

Not as scary as you think and I definitely won’t be lifting my shirt or showing any cellulite.

Did you all just breathe a sigh of relief?

Each week you can also link up and share “yours”.

Today I am sharing my basic makeup.

I get so many emails asking what makeup I use and especially when I do an e-course.

I swear that light in my office is magical and makes my skin look porcelain….which it definitely is NOT.

I have a routine and a way that I like to apply my makeup.

Nothing too fancy but these are my favorites.

I would love to see what you use too.

I like a pretty natural look and I am more likely to put a little more attention into skin and eyes than anything else.

When I was in high school I loved nothing more than makeup…and it showed.

Wowza could this girl pile it on!!

Now I really just want to accent what is lovely and try to naturally cover that which is not.

I have wrinkles.

I have sunspots.

I have larger pores in certain areas.

It is what it is.

I will never do anything too drastic to stay looking young but in the same breath I want to grow old gracefully.

I used to work in a nursing home when I was in high school and one of the loveliest sites is an older women that still cares about how she looks.

I plan on having long grey hair, painted toe nails and a little color on my cheeks at 90.

I hope I do.

I love when women don’t forget about themselves.

After I wash my face in the morning I apply Mineral Fusion Treatment Serum.

I am a sucker of serums….it must make me think it is doing something miraculous with my skin.

My skin is also changing so much!

It has changed so significantly that I am going in to have my hormones checked.

Lately my skin is drier and I am getting cysts under my skin.

When you notice your skin changing sometimes it is just little shifts and there are so many things you can do naturally.

After the serum I put on a Mineral Fusion moisturizer or my new BB Cream.

So far I am really loving it.

It blends like nothing I have ever tried and really brightens my skin.

I don’t like a heavy foundation so I use just a touch of Mineral Fusion Sheet Tint foundation.

Just a touch.

If I have any blemishes I will use my Covergirl Cover Up Stick #730.

I use a really light color and blend it in.

I use this for breakouts and sun spots.

I can not apply any powder without my awesome makeup brush my Arbonne.

I am still looking for a chemical free face powder (if you have a good suggestion I am all ears).

I really like the color of Maybelline’s Loose Face Powder in Light.

I just lightly brush my whole face.

I then top it off with Arbonne’s Bronzing Powder.

Keep in mind that I do all of this lightly.

Unless I am going out for something special I only use a little blush for eyeshadow.

I told you I was all fancy:-)

I then use the same Botantics Blush in Chicory for my cheeks.

I set everything with Mineral Fusion Hydration Mist.

When I run out of the spray I just fill it with water.

This sets all of my makeup and gives my skin a nice glow.

All I usually wear on my lips is Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Red Dahlia.

I am crazy over this stuff.

I keep an embarrassing amount hoarded all over the house.

Don’t judge me.

I don’t like eyeliner unless it is either Bobby Brown Charcoal Eyeshadow or Tarte Emphas Eye in Charcoal.

When I use the Bobby Brown I use a small brush to apply as an eyeliner.

{I only apply eyeliner on my top lid and only apply mascara on my top lashes}

To finish everything off I apply L’OREAL Voluminous mascara.

I have tried so many mascaras over the years and I always come back to this one because of how thick it makes my lashes.

I really like the Black Noir or Black Brown.

It sounds like I am Tammy Faye Baker but I swear I am not!

What do you use?

I love seeing what makeup works for others.

If you want to share what you use you can link up below!

I showed you mine…now you have to show me yours:-)

{if you want to get a head start on next week I will be showing what is in my purse}

Fashion 411 {you guys really like to send emails}

First of all THANK YOU so much for all of the sweet comments and emails about my leg.

It is has really come a long ways these past 10 days!

Crazy, crazy accident but so thankful that the Dr was able to get the infection under control.

I also think the Lord had a little bit to do with it too:-)

Week three of our e-course is underway and I am packing up to head to California.

I am getting all the kits ready for the art event I am teaching at.

Don’t worry…I will keep my leg elevated and comfy as much as possible.

(I am actually under Dr’s orders on that one)

I also turn 40 this weekend.

I have been so busy and bloated from antibiotics that I have barely given it a thought.

I received quite a few emails this week about my outfit from the last post.

I thought I would just answer everyone all at once right here.

Here are the details.

Boots are from Anthropologie

Dress is from J Crew

Cuff is from the Alameda Flea Market

Sweater is from Target

Necklace is from Noonday

***************

You guys are really nice with all your comments because I didn’t shower, my boots were hiding the horror that was my leg (and cankles) and I was in soooo much pain!

If you want to follow my photos when I am in California you can follow me on Twitter or my Facebook page.

Maybe you will just see me sitting….a lot.

Hope not.

This Could Only Happen To Me {For Reals}

I would like to start off by telling everyone that I am not excessively clumsy.

I was not drinking the day when this story begins (at least not excessively).

I don’t usually jump up out of my chair to do yard work (at least not excessively).

We can now proceed.

Last Monday was a gorgeous day here in Colorado.

The sun was out, the birds were chirping and all was right with the world.

We went for a hike on a new trail.

We had a picnic lunch in the backyard.

It was such a nice day that I recommended that the boys (meaning not me) move the front porch furniture to the pergola.

I was kicking back and soaking up the rays.

After the boys made the third trip down the hill with the furniture I decided to pretend I wasn’t really lazy and help.

NOTICE….this was my grave mistake.

Never make this mistake yourself (you can thank me later).

As I was helping my husband move the furniture to the pergola I bumped hard into one of our low rose bushes.

I didn’t really think anything of it until my left leg started to really hurt a few minutes later.

When I looked down there were two pieces of wood  lodged in my leg.

Serious.

I love how nothing hurts until you see it.

The first piece came out easily and the second was like a big splinter that took more work.

I thought I was going to barf.  Really.

I spent the next hour icing it and keeping it up because the pain was so intense.

I actually felt like the biggest baby because it hurt so bad.

I have had three babies.

One 9lb 10oz baby, one emergency c-section and another c-section.

Come on…suck it up.

The next day Kelly left for a trip.

By the middle of the day my leg was red and hot to the touch.

I was telling a friend about it and she told me to go get it looked at right away.

I kind of blew her off and then she started talking about fevers, vomiting, infections traveling to your heart.

Great…she had to bring up dying.

Now I HAD to go to the doctor.

I can’t die from a splinter!

The shame!

With my three children in tow I head to urgent care.

(This is the first circle drawn by the urgent care Dr. to monitor the infection)

Yes, I had an infection.

Two in fact.

One of the surface and one internally.

He then proceeded to try and examine my wound.

The pain was so intense that he had to give me anesthesia shots right into the infection.

Truly not my favorite thing that has ever happened to me.

The next was even better.

He pulled out a scalpel.

I seemed confused.

Was that FOR ME?

Why yes….it was.

He then proceed to open my leg to see if I had any wood pieces left in my leg.

Let me give you a medical lesson right here.

Did you know that vegetative substances are one of the most dangerous substances to get lodged in your body.

They are full of bacteria.

Nice.

He couldn’t find anything.

With a tetanus shot and my prescription for antibiotics… I left.

I will now skip the next two hours when I am driving around down, trying to fill a prescription, no pain killer, with my kids and crying like a baby.

It was really one of my best moments.

The next day my leg looked better.

By the afternoon the infection had significantly spread.

By the next day it had even spread more

We went to the emergency room.

My leg was cut back open but this time deeper.

MRI to see if they could find the wood.

Antibiotics right into the blood stream.

I was diagnosed with Cellulitis.

Don’t talk to a nurse that knows about it.

They say things like dead tissue and amputation.

Not the best pick me up I was needing.

Give the girl a break.

Let’s talk about the new dress I just got from JCrew…come on!

By the next day the infection had continued to spread and my leg was turning YELLOW.

We went BACK to the ER.

How was I to know that yellow is good.

HOW?

I was remember the dead tissue lady.

They did give me another dose of antibiotics intravenously because it was still spreading.

(Sorry if this grosses you out.  I just wanted to show the only photo I have that shows all the different times the infection spread)

1am I crawl into bed.

The next day my leg is looking really good.

Still hurts horribly because of the incision but the red is going down.

At this point I also have cankles from all of the swelling and antibiotics.

I don’t really pull off cankles very well.

Don’t you know it that hard things come when you seem to have a million things going on!

I am in the middle of an e-course, I am getting ready to leave to teach an art course in California and I have had tickets for MONTHS to take Maddy to see “Wicked”.

So, on Saturday I wrapped my leg up well, drove to Denver and we saw “Wicked”.

When she turned to me as soon as it was over and said, “Mom, that was AMAZING”.. I knew it was worth the throbbing pain inside my boots.

I pretty much hobbled to the car and we drove straight home.

The infection is going away and I have no idea what my leg will end up looking like

I will be wearing a bandage for awhile and I have an appointment this week with an infectious disease Dr.

Can you even believe it?

Splinters.

From a rose bush.

1. Those rose bushes are getting yanked out ASAP

2. I don’t ever want roses as a gift again

3. Yard work is dangerous and I will be staying away.

Please tell me that your past 7 days were better than mine.

Please!

I do still have my leg and that is a HUGE plus:-)

Cankles and all.
